The Slippersons began as a collaboration between two residents of Hawaii Island, Richard Russell and Peter Weinstock, who shared a love for music and the possibilities it offers – particularly for creating new material, practicing improvisation and increasing opportunities for learning. After co-writing several songs in a modern jazz style, as well as re-arranging some originals of their own, they enlisted four master musicians – Robin Jensen, Jesse Snyder, Brian McCree, & Joe Gargiulo – and performed this music live at various special occasions in North Hawaii to prepare for recording.

In September 2016 the Slippersons released

an album…and it was nominated for a 2017
